Darksun – A Journey from 2013 to the Top of the World
The Early Years and Private Servers
Darksun was founded in 2013 on the Molten WoW server. When Molten WoW later became Warmane, Darksun moved to the new environment as well, continuing its determined climb to the top of competitive raiding. On Warmane’s first realm, the guild earned Realm First achievements in both 25-player Obsidian Sanctum and Naxxramas.
When Warmane’s legendary Lordaeron realm opened, Darksun was there from the very first moment. The guild progressed through all Classic and The Burning Crusade raids and rose to the world elite by defeating the Lich King on 10-player Heroic difficulty as the second guild on the realm.
After Lordaeron, Darksun continued its success on several well-known private servers, such as Sunwell, Whitemane, Rising Gods and Twinstar. During those years the guild built the foundation on which its later world-class achievements were built.
The Next Chapter: World of Warcraft Classic: Wrath of the Lich King
In summer 2022, Darksun moved to Blizzard’s official WoW Classic servers with the Wrath of the Lich King pre-patch and settled on the Gehennas realm.
The guild made an immediate impression by placing 20th in the world rankings in the first raid tier. The achievement was no one-off: Darksun quickly established its position at the top of the world. Throughout the Wrath of the Lich King era the guild stayed among the world’s top 50 and became the leading competitive WoW Classic guild organization in Finland.
On an individual level too, Darksun’s players rose to the top of the world, earning multiple Rank 1 placements across different classes and specializations.
Cataclysm – The Rise to the Top of the World
In Cataclysm, Darksun moved to compete in the 10-player format. The change did not slow the guild’s progress. It kicked off the most successful era in its history so far.
In the first raid tier, Darksun placed sixth in the world rankings. In Firelands the momentum grew even further, resulting in second place in the world.
The culmination of Cataclysm came in Dragon Soul. Darksun reached first place in the world rankings in 10-player competition. At the same time, the guild was only one exploit skip away from the world’s top-ranked 25-player guild.
Dragon Soul sealed Darksun’s position as one of the most significant competitive guilds of the Cataclysm era and showed that a Finnish guild could once again challenge the best in the world on equal terms.
Mists of Pandaria – The End of an Era
In Mists of Pandaria, Darksun continued competitive raiding at a strong level in the 10-player format. In the first raid tier the guild reached second place in the world rankings, and in the second tier it placed fourth.
In the end, Darksun’s journey in Blizzard’s official Classic Mists of Pandaria came to a close. Slow content releases and delayed bug fixes weakened the gameplay experience and eroded the conditions for competitive raiding.
Over more than a decade, Darksun has come a long way, from the early years of private servers all the way to the top of the world. Along the way the achievements have changed, the servers have changed and the expansions have changed, but one thing has stayed the same: the desire to compete with the best and always strive for the next level.
Many servers. Many years.One Darksun.
